Going on holiday

Right, so I am away for a couple of weeks.  We are going walking in the Austrian Alps.  Everything I need is in my rucksack, although I would admit that this sounds better than it is as Ian is carrying a rucksack twice the size and much of our joint stuff is in there.

Will I enjoy it?  I don't know.  I hope so.  We are walking with a group of people I know a little.  We are sleeping in Alpine mountain huts in shared rooms, like little dormitories.  I loved my walk last year when I walked the Offa's Dyke Path and I know I enjoy walking.  Last year I was setting the pace though and could go as slow as I liked!  I have never walked in Austria, only driven through on my way to Croatia marvelling at the high green pastures and the neatly stacked woodpiles.

We have had to call on kind friends and family to move in and look after everything while we are away and the place is full of notes and lists.  The garden is full of things which are nearly ready to harvest and of things which are shouting at me for attention.  It is quite hard to tear myself away.

But off we go: car to Manchester, plane to Zurich, train into Austria, cable car up a mountain and then legs and feet.  No blogging, no twitter, no emails.

Sometimes, love home however much you do, it is good to get out more.

See you soon.

  20. E - it makes me laugh - I have finally, after way too long, got round to reading my favourite blogs and find you've bogged off on holiday!! I will use the time to read through all your wonderful posts, popping comments on here and there, happy in the knowledge I am not missing anything new for the next week or so!

I adore the Alps in summer - all those beautiful high pastures and fabulous vistas, clean air, deep cold lakes and jaunty geraniums on wooden clad chalets. Perfect. I hope the sun shines and that you have a super time. I also know only too well the feeling of leaving a beloved home and garden which you work so hard to keep looking beautiful all year round - and just as everything's coming good you have to abandon it! I have the same situation coming up in a week's time when I am off for 5 weeks to France - like you, I am so looking forward to a bit of a rest, but I hate leaving all this behind too as it all comes to fruition. I was hoping to enjoy it a bit this week, the start of the school holidays, but it looks as if the weather is going to spoil that long-awaited pleasure for me - as usual!!

    Safe travels.

  21. As I write this , you'll be strolling through a meadow full of Milka cows .
And of course you're all singing
    "I like to go a-wandering along a mountain track ..." . The Yodelee-hee , Yodelee-hee bit is the best .
    Have a wonderful trip !!
