Day 59 of the 100 day project

Every day I have done a small thing in the garden, unless I have been away in which case I have tried to give it some thought.  The greatest difference it is making at the moment is to the way I notice it.  A peony opening, a bit of bindweed twining through the salvias, a tiny bluetit chirping in the hedge: there is something about the daily engagement which makes me see it all.

Today I have put geraniums in the pots by the holiday cottage door and begun to seriously harden off the cosmos seedlings which I bought from Sarah Raven. I whisked through the side garden removing tiny heads of nettles which were poking up between the hardy geraniums.  Then I sat for a few minutes, listening to the garden, birds and pollinators and the distant hum of my neighbour's tractor.

From my seat the alliums and the orange geum clash gloriously.

Looking back towards the house, more alliums are clashing with the smyrnium and the side garden is only days away from erupting into the magenta of the hardy geranium which I think is Roxanne and which trails and hops its way around its neighbours, knitting everything together with its vibrant thread.

Up by the swing the roses are going full throttle.  I hope we save some of this glorious weather for when my son and his family come in a couple of weeks time.  In the meantime, it is time for noticing.

    1. Thank you. You could say orange and purple are a clash not a companionship but I love it!

  2. Pat is right , the allium and geum are wonderful together. The bright green leaves around them add even more to the picture. Reading your post it sounds as if you might be on the way to being in love with your garden again. It does look lovely.

    1. I definitely feel more connected to the garden Sheena. It used to be my overriding passion and I don't think I feel like that right now but I do feel interested and that I know what is happening out there!
