The first snow of the winter
Bakehouse and pigsties
The yew tree produces a good area of shelter.
Somehow I think I took my eye off the ball. The geraniums never made it into the greenhouse.
We always call this the sunny bank. Doesn't look too sunny just now!
Rosehips make me smile.
Ditto here in S W France. But slight rain melting all away; thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteBy the time I get home from Ottawa our freak snow should have melted and things will be suitable 'west coastal' again. There's something lovely, though, about flowers peeking out through the first snow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We've had sprinklings of snow that haven't stayed. And that's a good thing as I'm still on crutches.
ReplyDeleteBut when I see such lovely pics as yours, I long to have that first snowfall and walk in the chilly air as it falls on my head.
Looks lovely but we've got a piercing wind as well as snow, so I suspect there's more on the way! So happy to have found your blog.
ReplyDeleteNo snow in our southern haven of The Great White North yet, although the wind has been howling for three days straight.
ReplyDeleteI find your pictures deliciously attractive. There is something silent and calming about the cold and snow that soothes one's soul.
We've had what I think is called a light sprinkling here in Warwickshire, but it looks very pretty all the same. Bitter, though.
ReplyDeleteThe snow may have taken you off guard, but it does look lovely on your pictures.I'm glad your roof is battened down so well and I'm sorry about the geraniums. The south bank looks like a great spot to sled.
ReplyDeleteLooks so beautiful. We haven't any snow in this part of Suffolk, but it is bitterly cold though.
ReplyDeleteDear Elizabeth, Your photographs look so very pretty, there is nothing quite like a snowy landscape to lift the soul....especially if one can be inside in the warm looking at it!! I am so pleased that you have managed to make the roof weatherproof in advance of the snow.
ReplyDeleteAh Geraniums in snow. Came back after the theatre. Minus 2 on the thermometer carried pots in from the doorstep. But the snow is beautiful. World turned upside down. As if we were now staring at the ceiling. Clean, white, blank. A new start. Lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I went for a walk this morning... Somebody had put plastic bags over some of their plants to protect them from the weather... No wonder mine just seem to die! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's proper snow, we've only had a dusting down here in South Wilts.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your family troubles.
ReplyDeleteThis snow is pretty but I've decided that I'm over snow. So last year.(I wish.)
it looks so beautiful, not just the snow, that is just an added bonus.

It may not be sunny but it is certainly beautiful - and no wonder the rose-hips make you smile against a whiteness such as this.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy snow!
Hope you are ok.

We had snow recently too. Not something we take for granted in Seattle, where it's often wet but rarely snowy. There's a fun sledding hill near our house, and we really made the most of our little pre-Thanksgiving freeze. All melted now, and quite brown and slimy underneath - leaves, and mud. I'd go back to the snow tomorrow if we could. Loved your photos. It looks so cold!
ReplyDeleteStunning photos, doesn't seem that long since last Winter.......
ReplyDeleteLove the Rosehips, a splash of read amongst the white.
Hope you're nice and warm as toast.
Lovely post! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI did smile when I saw your Geraniums, I have some in the same state and I realised yestderday two dahlias. I thought I had dug them all up to overwinter in the garage but there is one which I walk past everyday so much that I forgot it existed!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you managed to get your roof watertight! Your pictures are beautiful, you have some amazing views. I love the picture of the rosehips particularly!

A slight covering here too.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I'd want to be in a house without a good Welsh slate roof at the moment though! Do you know when that might be?
In the meantime - stay warm.
Love seeing the countryside transformed, silent and still. Last evening we had a magnificent red sunset too.
ReplyDeleteI get a bit fed up with everything taking so much longer - lugging water up to the hens and creeping at snails pace along icy lanes.
Hope you are keeping warm without your slates - slating, that's a job I wouldn't want to do in this weather.
Only a little in Wiltshire, and it is never the same without the mountains.
ReplyDeleteI can taste the air in these pictures.
ReplyDeleteKnow that someone in New York is sending you warm thoughts and wishing you peace. I know you've been going through a lot lately.
Thanks for still taking the time to share your wonderful Wales with us.
Rosehips make me smile too! We're also white. It appeared overnight Friday to Saturday. Your place looks beautiful in the snow.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I'ts not as white out as ours, i hate too much snow=)
ReplyDeleteWow! I really like your post and the amazing snow..This is one of my favorite moment when the first snowfall comes and I with a cup of coffee enjoy it from my window..
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos Elizabeth. We only have snow on the hills here so far....
ReplyDeleteOur snows gone and I miss it so, I know I'm crazy some say but it just brings such beauty to everything. I too didn't get all my beautiful geraniums in. Its kinda neat that our weather seems to be so much alike, also in France. That roof looks like a job!
ReplyDeleteNot only the weather is similar in France, but also the feeling of elation and safety, having one's roof waterproof! A HUGE sigh of relief!
ReplyDeleteI'm very bad at keeping up with the blogs I follow at the moment. Can't help feeling nervous for you with all that wild welsh winter still to come and no slates on the roof - hope you stay snug! It does all look rather lovely - we just have that slight frosting that somehow just makes everything look a little dirty... Hope you rescued the geraniums!
ReplyDeleteI was taking some snowy pictures today and I noticed how many rose hips (and a few roses, too) were dusted by the snow. I wonder if this is a sign of a LONG winter to come . . . or if we are just getting it all up-front? Your header picture is beautiful, btw. I know that snow can be a real pain, but I still find it magical.
ReplyDeleteTonight I was making fruitcake and my daughter and I watched The Family Stone. A good contemporary Christmas movie -- with lots of beautiful snow scenes of the New England variety.

I don't know what it is but after i uninstalled a virus it deleted a lot of the scripting for programs to work and now it keeps de-selecting things as i'm doing them. Like i'm trying to play a game and it keeps de-selecting the whole game so it minimizes the entire game and i have to re-click it again, same with firefox, it even tries to close it. If anyone knows how to deal with this, any help would be appreciated
